Clean Air Month

“To us, clean air means a healthy home where you can relax, recharge and re-energize in a soothing, restorative environment. It means not having to worry about itchy eyes, runny noses or illness from allergies or viruses. It means fewer hours spent dusting and sweeping your living space and more time spent with the ones you love. Put simply, clean air means peace of mind.”
– Coway

Clean Air Month

The month of May is recognized in the United States by the American Lung Association as Clean Air Month. While the importance of unpolluted air is paramount in an environmental sense, it is also important to our personal health.

“We breathe every second for 24 hours every day to live. But the air we breathe has dust, various harmful gases, VOCs, pollen, pet hair, viruses, and other invisible particles,” says Hyun Jin Hong, Senior Research Engineer on the Coway AirCare Development Team. “The smaller the particle, the more chances of breathing that into our bodies. Air purifiers will help collect those and give us clean air and protect us from harm.”

Air purifiers are becoming increasingly technology-based, and Airmega comes equipped with features like internet and Wi-Fi capability. With the introduction of app and voice control, Wi-Fi-enabled Airmegas now give you unprecedented knowledge and power to purify your air. Not only do they measure in real-time the quality of your indoor air, but they can also track outdoor quality over time and deliver detailed reports.

The importance of clean indoor air

The air we breathe most often is inside our homes. That air can be full of contaminants from outside, but also heating, cooking, cleaning and other home activities. Beyond asthma, contaminants can affect our immune system, sleep quality, and overall health. Using a smart air purifier like Coway Airmega can help eliminate these harmful particles, including those found in highly polluted areas. Airmega is also effective at removing smog and smoke from the air in highly polluted areas like big cities where outdoor air is hard to keep separate from your indoor spaces.

Exposure to air pollution can cause depressive moods and impact cognitive ability, meaning that poor air quality can make you both feel bad and slow down your thinking. A study by Harvard and Syracuse Universities looked at the effect of indoor air quality on higher-order cognitive functioning with simulated indoor environments with different controlled conditions, from the amount of ventilation to the level of carbon dioxide. Twenty-four participants spent six full work days switching back and forth between “typical” office environments with high concentrations of volatile organic compounds, and “green” office environments with low concentrations of volatile organic compounds, better ventilation, reduced levels of carbon dioxide and reduced emissions from office products.

The findings: Cognitive function scores were significantly better under the green conditions than the conventional environment—on average, 61 percent better. And doubling ventilation performance increased scores by more than 100 percent. This has implications for classroom learning, workplace efficiency, cognitive development in babies and more.

Leading innovation with science

The patented filter technology inside every Airmega has been tested and retested to ensure the highest possible efficiency and effectiveness.
Coway air purifiers have been proven to trap dust, pollen, dander, viruses and bacteria in the air based on testing by Korea Conformity Laboratories in a 30 cubic meter chamber. The Airmega machines are tested on maximum fan speed in normal room temperature and humidity conditions to measure particle removal rate and were found to capture and remove up to 99.999%* of extremely small particles down to 0.01 micron.

Coway Airmega 400 features Max2 filters are all-in-one HEPA filter systems that combine Green True HEPA™ filter technology with a 99.99% removal rate of particles up to __ microns and an activated carbon filter.Although in general other HEPA filters alone are guaranteed to trap 99.97%** of particles 0.3 microns in size, some particles will inevitably get through. Airmega’s Max2 filters include an activated carbon filter that uses small pores to capture the chemicals, odours, and smoke that a standalone HEPA filter might not catch, bringing that number up to 99.999%*.
